All in All, It's Been a Bird Girl Weekend.
Last night and today I have been working on two Bird Girl pieces on wood. Unfortunately I haven't managed to photograph them brilliantly here, particularly the lustre of the gold (background, details etc). My next job is to learn how to photograph my work properly.
Creating these pictures has been a really enjoyable process and now I am looking at the images I posted on Friday and thinking 'God, they look so dull and flat' (flat was what I was trying to achieve, now I like texture! I am fickle.) These are a mix of marker, brush pen, acrylic and gold pen. I think those in the know might call them 'mixed media'.
The wooden frames came from SAMS (Scrap Art Material Store) here in Blackburn, a fabulous place for all sorts of scrap finds including seconds of mass produced canvas pictures that they sell for a couple of quid, beautiful fabrics and random plastic stuff. Definitely worth a visit if you make, sew or build stuff and a treasure trove of inspiration for schools.
